Second double shooting this weekend leaves man, woman dead in 7th Ward

A double shooting in the 7th Ward on Sunday evening left a man and woman dead, the New Orleans Police Department reported.
Charles Wilson Jr., 27, and Maggie Russell, 49, were identified as the victims, said John Gagliano, chief coroner's investigator.
The shooting happened about 5 p.m. in the 2500 block of New Orleans Street, near the corner of North Dorgenois Street, said officer Shereese Harper, an NOPD spokeswoman.
Police responding to a report of a shooting found Wilson sprawled on the street, where paramedics pronounced him dead. Russell was rushed to Interim LSU Public Hospital, where she died a short time later, authorities said.
NOPD Assistant Superintendent Marlon Defillo said Wilson and Russell were shot as they walked out of a house on New Orleans Street. He said it appeared that someone was waiting for Wilson.
"We believe he was the intended target," Defillo said.
He could not say whether Russell was also an intended target or was caught in the crossfire.
Defillo said investigators believe someone in the neighborhood saw something during the shooting. Crimestoppers has increased its cash reward to $5,000.
Detective Desmond Pratt is heading the investigation.
